No longer virgin…

June 1st, 2010

Sitting in my bed at 11:15PM, drafting this blog entry up, with a heap of gunk in my hair, curiousity at its peak…

Soon, I can say bye bye to my virgin, Asian black hair

Yes, I’m currently in the process of murdering my own hair.

This is my second attempt tonight trying to dye it, my first attempt started at 9PM… results after an hour which almost seemed like no difference at all. I can -just- see the chocolate brown in my roots, but my ends were still pretty dark. Unsatisfied with the lack of difference, I re-did it again.

I’ve always wanted to try something different with my hair, dying it, perming it, but always hesitated. Why? because my hair is -weak-. Well, I don’t know if I have hair loss issues or my hair just grows back 10x slower than everyone else, due to insufficient nutrients in my body, ladida.

Until, some months ago I read up on this new Japanese hair dye by Kaos, ‘Prettia’ bubble hair dye. As the name suggests, it really is a bubbly, foam hair dye, which you use pretty much the same way as you would wash your hair. Sounds easier than how they’d usually do it with a brush-bottle thing. Another appealing thing is, well it is a Japanese product and they tend to be pretty good quality, and apparently this is one of the least damaging hair dyes out there.. so, you can imagine how ideas started sparking.

Their ad pretty much shows it.

We went to Japan a few months ago, and bought like 4 boxes of Prettia and 2 boxes of Palty. So I had them sitting on my shelf for some time now, and finally found the motivation to, do it. Keep in mind, I’ve never dyed my hair before, so it took some contemplating last night – it was actually inspired by my sister who ended up dying her hair last night, with the same product – though hers is more orange-brown. I did mine in the dark chocolate colour. Sister kept saying, you should get a lighter shade so that it would be a little more obvious, even if it doesn’t turn out as light coloured as the sample. Negative. I haven’t prepared myself to have orangey brown hair. My ideal colour is like a rich chocolate -slightly- red or grey tones :)

According to the colour chart on the right, starting with black hair.. I guess its pretty close. The box here looks a little more red, I don’t think my box shows it that reddish brown though. It’s a new colour for 2010, so I couldn’t find much results from others on this colour.

The smell is absolutely, horrible. The chemicals. Well it’s not bad as in yucky smelly, but it’s just really strong and -in your nose- literally. I can feel myself getting a headache from it, or is it from the dampness of my hair?

When time is up, it would probably be midnight, and I shall blog again after its -done-.

// edit //

okay, I’ve washed my hair out for the second time. The first time my hair felt really nice and soft, maybe because of the treatment package they provided. Then after redying it the 2nd time, I didn’t have the treatment.. so its a little less soft… but still nice.

I can see the colours much better now on the roots, though it looks slightly uneven… maybe because I massaged my roots/top too much :( But overall I think it looks pretty subtle, nice, depending which light you’re looking at it in.

I didn’t want a drastic change, take it a step at a time. I guess I just look like I have a slightly natural brown tint in my -once black- hair, maybe a little lighter.

Overall pretty happy, though I guess I wished I had gotten it a lil more even, my fault though. Atleast Its not so obvious the different tones, i hope!

Can you tell? ;)

*I used to have black, black Asian. Sorry no before-afters since I did it at night… this is from today.

I’m in the uni mac labs. lol =x

Bf managed to capture -some colour- with my DSLR. I doubt its this light though.

I finally took out my reddish Luvshuca lipstick, and tried it on. It somehow looks better with the brownish hair don’t you think? Or its just me… I find it hard to match red lipstick with black hair without too much contrast. This red is more raspberry clearish red though. Somehow I feel more confident wearing it out :)

Pretty cheap hair dye though. That’s if you by it straight from Japan. I think it was roughly 600 Yen, which worked out to be around $8-9 when I bought it. If you were to buy it off ebay, its like $20ish ! :( They sell it in Sydney too at AKA Cosmetics but its like $33?? I miss Japan for cheap Japanese cosmetics!

I’m not sure about whether its damaging or not, but so far its alright. I’m not experiencing hair fall out or anything. I guess its recommended to use treatment masks and such for your hair to keep it healthy, etc. Will update on this later.

I think this lasts for a few months.. so its not exactly -permanent- ?

Overall I guess I’m fairly happy with it, still can’t believe I dyed my hair.
