The JULY Project day #13

Day 13 – A picture of your friends

What’s better than an Asian styled hot pot in winter?

Hot Pot @ Lum’s!

Gathered my friends at my place for hot pot tonight (great timing!)

It was yummy, and never felt so guilty afterwards!

We ended up on the couch with a bowl of sorbet watching Modern Family.

It was a great catch up boys & girls!

The JULY Project Day #12

Day 12 – A picture of your favorite food

Yet again, another difficult photo for today. For someone who loves eating out half the week, its rather difficult to decide.

So I’ll choose; noodles. I love noodles!

Ichiran ramen & special boiled egg, Ueno;Tokyo, Japan

Very general I know, but if I was to be specific, I’d love a good bowl of Tonkatsu ramen, with a lovely thick flavoured pork broth.

Ever since Japan, I’ve fallen in love with ramen there…Ichiran the best! Since coming back I have been searching long and hard for something similar here. Sadly, it really can’t compare, only ‘close to’ it.

I really hope I’ll get to go back to Japan soon :)

The JULY Project Day #11

Day 11 – A picture of your favorite drink

Do you recognize what drink this is? despite my dodgy-iphone-enhanced shot?

Indeed, it is a cup of Che 3 Mau (Che Ba Mau), a Vietnamese drink that consists of three coloured ‘che’; brown beans, yellow mung beans, green jelly and is served with coconut milk and ice.

It was difficult to decide what is my favourite drink, I asked the bf, What is my favourite drink?”, he replied, “I don’t know…” (shocked) “… it depends on the weather and your mood”. True.

I do enjoy the occasional bubble tea from Easy Way; green tea for warmer temperatures, milk tea for cooler temperatures… but Easy Way I guess has become a little pedestrian now since it’s so accessible, so I chose Che 3 Mau instead.. though there are many other drinks I enjoy but don’t have a shot in hand, without having to visit a place for it.

Che 3 Mau, is usually the drink that I order to accompany my Pho (or -insert Vietnamese dish-), cos I guess you can only get it at Vietnamese places and a handful of Chinese places (though I think it is slightly different). It would be a great drink to have on-t he-go especially in hot weather, I find it extremely ‘cooling’, exactly what it’s meant to do!

Hope you have all had a pleasant weekend!

Last week of Uni holidays :(

The JULY Project Day #10

Day 10 – A picture of what you like to do

and a New online project!….

Strawberry & cream cheese friands; from the other day (these are pre-oven shots!)

i like to bake.

I have recently rediscovered my interest for baking these holidays. I’m not very good at it, but I do hope to improve after more practice. So far I haven’t gotten disgusted faces from the family yet so that is a good sign.

I want to do food photography, in the comfort of my own home. If no one else offers me dishes to shoot, I will make them myself 8-) it’s a good initiative to improve my cooking/baking skills, oui?

On the note of cooking/baking; I would like to introduce to you a new online project of mine…

www.eatmyshots.com

an online food journal; for my food photography & where i gather and share my thoughts on my culinary journey.

from dining experiences to my take on recipes.

i’m no pro, so don’t judge so harshly :)

stay tuned of whats yet to come.

The JULY Project Day #09

Day 09 – A picture of what you had for lunch

At the boyfriends using some proper internet, stupid capped internet at home, even though its capped at 1Mb/ps it doesn’t load a fuhrikkin thing.

well, I had half of that (bottom bag)

Octopus and Lobster sushi; the best sushi rolls. My favourite place for a quick sushi would have to be Sushi Connection at Bondi Junction Westfield, near Coles. For $2.70 it’s not a bad price, considering it is a fairly big roll and best of all… you get some seafood :D I recommend the lobster roll. *thumbs up*

I’m so sick of this wet & gloomy weather, can you please, go away? :(

The JULY Project Day #05

Day 05 – A picture of your morning

An early blog post for once!

Yup, fresh strawberries.

I had set my mind to this the night before, after several mornings of drooling over Jamie’s Strawberry Cream Cheese Bread recipe at My Baking Addiction. For one, I’ve never had strawberry bread before, and can imagine how lovely the flavours would be; just that taste of sweet-sourness breaking through the cream cheese. It had to be done.

how good do those strawberries look? :D

I’ve never cooked bread loafs before, so this is my first time. I never thought it takes about 50-60mins to bake, quite unlike cakes I guess. I might’ve over cooked it just a little bit, hence its more tanned than Jamie’s, next time! I’ll try make it look better :) I just wish it had a bit more sourness to it, imagine if they were fresh, fresh strawberries? mm, mm.

In fact I’d love to experiment with blueberries or something :)

Hope you all have a great rest of your day~

The JULY Project Day #04

04. A Picture of where you went today

Instead of attending yet another family gathering, out in Burwood this time, the bf and I skipped it and went out for roti instead.

Roti as in Malaysian kind of flatbread. I’ve only had my first bite of it just about a month ago, and just had to share the experience with him.

Every time we walk through Goulburn st, we’re always amazed at the queue outside Mamak, a popular Malaysian roti restaurant. The queue is misleading though, only because the restaurant doesn’t take reservations, hence the line up for a table. Don’t be fooled by the queue because honestly, it goes pretty quick, people are probably in an out within the hour. You’ll be amazed at the speed of service here, we ordered our lamb curry and maybe within 5 minutes it was served up.

If the queue isn’t overwhelming, how about the crowd that gathers around the front window with the chef, skillfully kneading, flattening and folding the roti-to-be. No wonder it gets people’s taste buds curious.

Recommended. Great for a late night snack, especially on Fridays and Saturdays since they close at 2AM.

Loved the Roti Planta, the extra butter really adds to the flavour. If you want to keep it simple, Roti Canai is the one to have.

Always on the look out for interesting gastronomical adventures, do share if you know of any :)

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Whacking the moon, aside, Melbourne!

Hello world,

It feels nice to be human again, after long torturous nights of rushing my stop motion animation (for those who don’t know what it is – basically a form of frame-by-frame animation, where you capture every slight move and put together as a video/animation… yes sounds tedious right? it is!), its as if I’ll never get rid of this habit of starting assignments, last minute. I’m glad I started a few days early, and not the day before. I literally would’ve died and gone to students-hell.

Overall, its pretty shit.

notice how messy it got near the end?

I’m ashamed to show it, the quality is really crap since I did it at home with my make shift studio set up, and used a 5mp web cam, since apparently if I used my DSLR as a ‘webcam/video cam’, it will shorten the life span of my sensor… no way am I going to put my baby through that!

I just convince myself that the noise adds to the visual aesthetics.

Finished product.

It was such a race against time this afternoon. Practically an hour before it’s due, I had to drive out and get my DVD printed on (yes print directly on to CD requirement, such a pain). It costed me $8ish just for that! Times like these I wish my capable printer was functioning! Saw a few other people’s packaging, it was 100x more awesome, professional, so I cringed. Oh well, I have next semester to prove myself with packaging… ha ha.

Now that the 50% media project is aside, up next is a 2500-3000 word media essay which I absolutely dread. It’s due on Friday, but news is… I’m going to Melbourne Early Friday Morning! So deadline is Thursday for me. 3000 word essay, no way am I going to start day before. It is literally impossible, not a risk i’d take for a 40% assignment.

It feels like I haven’t written an essay since the longest time, since like last year, and I don’t do well with long breaks between things ;( 13 references.. argh so much reading to be done.. I’m hoping Melbourne will motivate me to get it done asap so I can start planning :) . Lastly on that note, I have another essay due Next Wednesday, which is also worth 40% or so. Guess who’s going to be ‘working hard’ in Melbourne at night?

I ain’t the only one, boyfriend has 4 exams the following week. youch!

I’m going to Melbourne primarily with the bf, cos he wants to pick up some ‘shoes’ for his car from Melbourne, and we though we might as well go for a weekend and make it in time for PMA! And a few friends are going down along with us too, so fun fun! PMA – is a Photography, Imaging Exhibition… where they showcase camera gear (from all brands), printing services, frames, photo albums etc.etc. anything photo related, you’ll find it there. Oh Adobe as well and Wacom :) I’m geed, cos we’re attending as ‘trade’ people, since I’ve got my own ABN/business.. so we can get in before the public :D

I’m excited. I went to the Sydney one last year and loved it! Don’t know… its like I’m stepping into my ‘my world’, it’s like eyegasm just seeing cameras and ginormous lenses :D :D

OTHER than that, Melbourne - shopping, shopping, DFO Southbank :)

Another thing is. FOOOOOOOOOD! My taste buds are gonna have a festive weekend! haha. Can’t wait to to try, Sushi Burger, Little Cupcakes, just to name a few. We only have a few nights and days to eat there – with a budget-, so gotta be selective!

Any yum Melbourne food spots, drop me a comment!
