Artbook?

I’m in class now, and somehow stumbled onto Amy Sol‘s blog after a long while.

Absolutely love Amy Sol‘s work, one of my favourite artists!I I love all the fantasy that’s involved. Truly imaginative. One day, I will fork out US$200-400 and purchase one of her artworks, for my wall :) framed.

Then, I found that she contributes to Gelaskins; an online company that prints skins for your piece of technology – phone, laptop etc. They’re artworks are primarily from prominent artists; Audrey Kawasaki, KaKuLa just to name a few.

I also love Audrey Kawasaki‘s work, although the medium which she and Amy Sol uses are the same, both has different art styles.

I love how she portrays femininity her her artworks. So far her gelaskins appeal to me most. Maybe because the wood grains are more visible. I wish that Amy Sol would contribute a few more of her artworks though.

Essentially, my macbook could be like a walking canvas. No longer will it be the obvious apple branded laptop at first sight.

Apparently these skins are anti-scratches, which makes it slightly more appealing.

Very tempting; I’m contemplating.

To buy or not to buy? :)

Audrey Kawasaki – She who Dares

Audrey Kawasaki – Odaijini

Amy Sol – Leave the Hair and Go Free

Audrey Kawasaki – Oiran

Not that I’d also skin my iPhone as well… unless if I can just do it on a phone cover (I like to mix and match my iphone accessories), then it’d b cool. This artwork just looks awesome on the back of a phone,

Don’t you think?

Leather Lace?

i Love Etsy.

I miss the days when I was once an active etsyian, sewing bags, and watching my sales go up – it’s a very pleasant feeling to see people are liking what you make!

I’ve stopped since a whole year ago, oh my inspirations, and most importantly motivations are running dry :(

but reading the daily etsy newsletter that comes to my inbox every morning, is some what inspiring (not that i’m getting much ideas)..

but i just love seeing what people come up with!

This morning, what caught my eye is, this Leather lace cuff, by LoveAtFirstBlush

Well honestly, I’m not sure if I’d personally wear it. Its really cool, but I just don’t have outfits to match! Another thing is, my arm tends to be too ‘small/thin’ for anything that’s meant to grasp tightly around it ;(

But, I can imagine it’d look like an awesome accessory for a photoshoot! The black, boldnessis so ‘strong’, yet feminine at the same time with the lacey pattern.

It’s a little pricey though, for someone who isn’t employed :( Sadly.

and the Etsy search continues….

1 Uniform Dress, 365 Days

Good morning :)

Woke up not long ago, still trying to recover from lack of sleep lately, but unfortunately there’s just too much that needs to get done!

One of the first things I did this morning, on facebook usually - Michelle Phan posted up a link.

One Uniform dress (well there were 7 to alternate with), 365 days, 365 different looks.

All for a good cause of giving kids an education. So amazing! How many different looks one can come up with, using the same dress.

For a moment I wished school uniform rules weren’t so strict, and we were allowed to spice up our uniform like so!

Uniform Project Picture Book from The Uniform Project on Vimeo.

Tell me, you’re inspired?? :P

I wish I had so much devotion to myself, just to keep up on a 365 project :( My Design 365 failed miserably, after 17 days… and still trying to find the bothered-ness to start up again! I kinda need a buddy to do it with, heh maybe that’d keep me going! I have a bad habit of not being able to complete things… from drama series to … hmm

On another note….

Just to take a break from uni life and all… we’re going to Russell Peter’s Green Card Tour!

Don’t know him? In short he’s a canadian-’wanna be indian’, comedian (hah at the -ians). He’s good with his racist jokes, haha.

My fingers crossed is he will make us laugh our asses off!

Anyhow, back to uni work :(

Inspire me ~

Happy Weekends! For me anyways, sorry to rub it in to those who still have uni tomorrow :) I shouldn’t be too proud about it though – I have to clean up the house tomorrow!

Well anyways, 2nd week is over – boy, does time fly! I’ve never had a 2.5 day timetable before; and this is what it feels like. I think more than 50% of the time I feel like I’m on holidays still… not sure if that’s a good thing? It has been rather eventful, my lovely uni-days almost like a perfect tetris compilation. 9-5pm days. I’ve already found myself falling behind readings! ah yes, good old readings.. .when will I ever keep up with them! The pressure’s on, with assessments starting to fly in from every direction! But the way I function, I can’t completely devote myself to getting things done and out of the way.

While I’d like to avoid the heavy load of reading; I want to be engaged in creative works. I’m still trying to find the passion plus time to improve on things, build a portfolio etc. How am I to inspire myself again? Yes, I was once inspired.. it had created sparks, lit the flame, but not enough to keep it going. I would have to say though, I have received some good words of advice, from established designers. I attended Amnesia Open Studio last year, for their seminars.. on Inspiration, getting a job etc. I thought I’d share the Inspiration bit with my peers – while also trying to inspire myself too.. haha..

First and Foremost; Design is EVERYWHERE; So don’t be let down that there aren’t jobs out there! Regardless of GFC, it is important to promote yourself; do alot of freelance work.. for free. Make Connections!

If you have difficulty getting inspired; give these a go (as Presented by the Founder of ‘People like  Us’)

Inspiration Wall

Inspiration Wall; more on Flickr

  • COLLECT INSPIRATIONS; These could range from stock images/illustrations/any form of digital art.
  • Arrange them in a series of folders on your computer, by date, or under categories, e.g. water.
  • Build folders of everything inspiring! Colour palettes, textures, fonts, montage, patterns, web layouts, magazine design layouts etc.
  • Keep the sizes to a limit, e.g. 150 files in each folder.
  • Likewise, you could physically collect nightclub flyers, post cards.. and create a moodboard for yourself! I like to call this an Inspiration Wall. (I’m still working on mine…)

And another thing; there is no harm in ‘trying’ other’s styles, as long as you are not 100% copying their work! Nothing is completely original, as it is likely to be an inspiration from something else! Let it be a learning experience, to build up your own ‘style’. :) .. watch your Inspiration Grow..

Amnesia Open Studio is on again this year! 7-8th April! Check it Out!

Rant; I dislike video-recording myself.. especially when sensible talk is involved! I’m sad I have to re-record my Manifesto!

When I Grow Up…

Sadly, the above is not as simple as it seems to be when we were just lil kids.

Here I am sitting in a lecture on (MGMT2725) Career Planning and Management…. I wonder too, how they manage to have a whole subject on career planning! I’m hoping it will be a guidance for my journey of discovering my career path! But, at this point, although only week 2 into the subject… I’m already a little confused about the complexities of trying to define THE career for ME. And the ongoing questions that are rumbling through my head.

Yes, I’m still a lost little girl, and you can’t blame me for being so! I get myself too involved in several little ventures – perhaps I should make a hybrid career for myself??

- The Sewing/Craft Making… Fashion

- Graphics/Occasional Web Designing

- Photography..

It almost seems like I can be a 1 wo/man band for my own fashion label of some sort, haha.

But really, Who would know career has about… 5 or so different meanings??

And the process you must go through… such as evaluating your personality/behaviour to match up a suitable career. Which is understandable, maybe thats why people tend to make the wrong decisions these days. I urge you to reconsider your plans before you go on any further! I found out that there is a Careers Research and Assessment Service provided at UNSW with a ‘little fee’, http://cras.psy.unsw.edu.au/index.htm Check it out if interested.

Oh, did I mention I’ll be doing a 3,500 word self assessment? I wonder whether I’ll end up discovering anything after all those words….

Aishii Designs @ Glebe Markets III

For those who aren’t aware that… I’m a Co-owner of a little craft business; selling handmade bags and fashion accesories by; ‘Aishii Designs’, we’re usually an international online business but time-to-time spend a Saturday at Glebe Markets (and loosing hours of sleep the nights before!)  to promote our brand to the local community.

Its about the 3rd time of market-going, and sadly the sales just decrease each time :( To make things sound better; its not us, its the economy! As other stall owners came to agree on too. Overall, ATLEAST we sold something and ENOUGH to cover the expenses. I have too much stock at home and hoping to clear some off.. so we can make more!

Planning to head down there again in Mid April.. after people have received their $900 stimulus package =P. See you then!

By the way; our new web address is; www.aishii-designs.com; difference is.. we’ve changed from .net to .com … why the little change? Long story. Equally, you can purchase from us by dropping us an email or buy directly from http://aishii.etsy.com NOTE: prices are in USD!
