[JAPAN] Takoyaki Galore
March 1st, 2010
– Osaka –
As off this post, candid photos were taken with my Sony W300, so don’t expect anything fancy pantsy
– I was simply not bothered to lug the big baby around for the remainder of the trip, since i’ve done most sightseeing by then.
Back in Osaka again, most of us looked forward to returning to Osaka, because we have concluded that Osaka IS the place to be for GOOD FOOD, and not expensive too. Kyoto is the most expensive of the places we’ve been and Tokyo is about average, but both of them there’s not much of a variety – it was mostly Ramen, Soba places etc. Osaka is good for variety! So if I were to go back, I would gladly stay in Osaka most of the trip and do day trips from there, and also stay in Tokyo for shopping (assuming next time I can afford to shop till I drop!)
Itinerary for the remainder of Osaka trip was easy going; First stop is Takoyaki Museum! Located at the Universal City walk (which is also where Universal Studio is located!), once you exit form the station, you can’t miss it. It’s located on level 2 of the mall.

The museum itself featured a few takoyaki stalls – so it was much like a takoyaki food court, and also a souvenir store. We order our takoyaki at a vending machine (popular way of ordering in Japan) at our chosen takoyaki stall. Boy, do these takoyaki chefs do it quick! So pro!

My sister and I shared a 16 takoyaki dish that costed Y820. The side without the spring onions weren’t anything special, pretty similar to what you would get anywhere. While my sister found the spring onion side weird tasting, I loved it – it had a citrusy sour punch to it, so it was different, and interesting

Universal City walk….

We had our light lunch at Daisuki Sushi. It was our first sushi train stop in Japan, this place didn’t look all that great, but we wanted something different other than Ramen, soba.

There were a few interesting flavours, but overall it wasn’t all that fresh. It made me miss fresh Sydney sushi, with fresh seafood.

On our train ride to Namba, the carriage was packed with these hip youngsters, probably still in Primary school. We couldn’t get over the way they dressed, the pinks and purples… reminds us of our un-cool we dressed when we were in primary school! I guess this is the city of the future afterall….

Recognize the big crab? Yes! we’re back in Dotonburri! the place where you eat till you go broke! Our mission was to eat a bit at a time, while shopping at the big shopping street – Shinsaibashi.

Desserts in Japan look so yummmazingg! We all had our eyes on the lady bug cake!

Appetizer – sweet crepes!

Almost right after was, dinner at Kinryu Ramen, yes Ramen again! But it was DELICIOUS. It was around Y900.
You can’t miss this in Dotonburri, it has a giant dragon at the top of the shop, and one of its branches ethere is like an instant stop for Ramen, so people just stand around the bench slurping their ramen away.

We had an early night back in the hotel. At Universal City walk, we came across Sparkling Sake (plum and sakura flavour) at one of the shops. None of us had tried sake before, so we didn’t really know what to expect. It turned out that Sparkling Sake pretty much tasted like champagne.

Cheers! and Good Night
